THE FAMILY

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

With faith in God and in each other, we pledge our love today.
May our lives always bear witness to the reality of love.
Lighting of the Candles

The candles are symbols of light and warmth, wisdom, hope and life. The flames signify Gods everlasting presence which, we pray, may remain in our life together as we live in God's love.

Lighting of the Unity Candle

The unity candle symbolizes the unity and indissolubility of marriage. Jesus is the Light of the world. The Christian family must be constantly illumined by the light of Gospel values, attitudes and relationship. What God has united together let no man separate.

A ring is a symbol of unending faith and love for each other.

"wear this ring as sign of my unconditional love and fidelity"

The Blessing of the Rings and Arrhae
The arrhae symbolizes sufficiency of material possessions.

Jerry: I give you these arrhae as a pledge of my dedication to your welfare.

Jonah: And I accept them.

Laying of the Veil and Cord
At baptism you were clothed with a white garment symbolizing the new life of creation and freedom. You are clothed again with this precious garment as you enter the new phase of life with Christ.

The Cord is a symbol of unity. It reflects the bond between a man and his wife, a bond that shall never be broken.

Friends of the couple lay a white veil on the shoulders of the groom and head of the bride;a cord, called yugal, is placed in the form of an eight (8) over the shoulders of both; this is a symbol of matrimony.

The Marriage Vows
"I, Jerry, take you Jonah, to be my wife, my partner in life and my one true love.

I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever.

I will trust you and honor you I will laugh with you and cry with you.
I will love you faithfully Through the best and the worst, Through the difficult and the easy. What may come I will always be there. As I have given you my hand to hold So I give you my life to keep. May God bless our marriage in peace and happiness for all time."

To be one heart and one soul from this day forward for better, for worse
for richer, for poorer in sickness and in health until death do us part.
"I, Jonah, take you Jerry, to be my husband, my partner in life and my one true love.

Jonah, love your husband and be a good housewife; persevere in faith and love and holiness.

Jerry, love your wife as Christ loves His Church and live with her in the holy fear of the Lord.
